Pezeshkian: Iran seeks stronger ties with neighboring countries

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to strengthening ties with Islamic and neighboring countries.

In a phone call on Wednesday, Pezeshkian extended his congratulations to United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

He also invited the UAE president to visit Iran to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation.

“We look forward to your visit to Iran and in-person consultations and dialogue on ways to expand mutual cooperation,” Pezeshkian remarked.

In response, Sheikh Mohamed extended his felicitations to Pezeshkian on Eid al-Fitr, wishing progress and peace for “the friendly and brotherly” nation of Iran.

He expressed his appreciation for the call, describing it as a testament to the “good ties between the neighboring countries.”

The Emirati president also shared his eagerness to visit Iran, saying, "I am very interested in traveling to Iran as soon as possible so that… together we can help create and strengthen communication bridges between the two countries” in pursuit of shared interests and a promising future.

‘Kuwait not to be used in hostile acts’

In a separate phone call on Wednesday, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s readiness to enhance relations with regional countries as he spoke with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Sabah.

The leaders exchanged Eid al-Fitr greetings while discussing the importance of fostering stronger ties.

"Based on Islamic principles and their emphasis on maintaining good relations with neighbors, we are prepared to cooperate in various fields with Kuwait and other neighboring nations to deepen and strengthen bonds of brotherhood and neighborliness," Pezeshkian emphasized.

Kuwait's emir welcomed Iran’s efforts to deepen regional ties, expressing his country’s desire to enhance relations with Iran. He praised Tehran’s constructive approach toward building stronger connections with neighboring and friendly nations.

During the phone conversation and in an apparent reference to tensions with the US over Iran’s nuclear program, the Iranian president stressed that the Islamic Republic seeks nothing but “fairness and justice."

“Regarding the issue of resolving tensions, the Islamic Republic of Iran will act solely based on rights and fairness, …and will not accept anything beyond fairness and justice."

Kuwait's Emir emphasized that regional and international tensions should be resolved through dialogue, stressing that Kuwait will not allow any country to use its territory in hostile acts against other countries.

“The government and people of Kuwait, based on the country's constitution, will never accept any act of aggression being carried out from its territory against another country,” the Emir said.

This comes as US President Donald Trump threatened over the weekend that he might order military strikes against Iran if Tehran refused to enter negotiations to “make a new deal.”

On March 12, Trump sent a letter to Iran’s leadership, asking for negotiations to reach a new deal and threatening military action if Tehran refused.

Iran has ruled out direct negotiations with the US under pressure and threats but says indirect talks remain an option.
