Israel kills nearly 60 Palestinians across Gaza in 24 hours, many still uncounted for

Palestinians recite a prayer over the bodies of members of the Ghoula family at the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, also known as the Baptist Hospital after their home was hit in an Israeli strike in the Shujaiya neighbourhood of Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip on January 4, 2025.

Israeli forces have massacred about 60 more Palestinians, including several children, over the past 24 hours in the Gaza Strip, official figures show.

“Israeli forces killed 59 people and injured 273 others in four massacres of families in the last 24 hours,” said the Health Ministry on Saturday.

It said, “Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads, with rescuers unable to reach them.”

The latest fatalities have brought the overall death toll in the Palestinian territory to more than 45,700, since October 2023.

On Saturday, at least 19 people, including eight children, were killed in the territory, rescuers said.

According to the civil defense agency, an airstrike at dawn on a residential building in Gaza City killed 11 people, seven of them children.

“The home, which housed several displaced people, was completely destroyed,” said civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal.

“It was a two-story building and several people are still under the rubble.” He said the regime’s forces had “also fired on ambulance staff.”

Images shared on social media from the neighborhood of Shujaiya, in the east of Gaza City, showed bodies lined up on the ground, covered in white sheets.

Elsewhere, the civil defense agency said five security officers, tasked with accompanying aid convoys, were killed by an Israeli strike as they were driving in a car in the southern city of Khan Yunis.

Bassal said Israeli forces have “deliberately targeted” them to “affect the humanitarian supply chain and increase the suffering” of the population.

Local rescuers also said three members of the same family, including a child, were killed when their house was bombed in Khan Yunis.
