A Palestinian detainee, who was abducted by Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip more than a year ago, has died at a medical center in the occupied territories.

Ashraf Fakhri Abu Warda, 51, breathed his last at Soroka Medical Center in the southern occupied city of Beersheba on Sunday, the Commission of Detainees' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society said in a joint statement.

Abu Warda died two days after he was transferred from the Negev Desert Prison in southern occupied territories, they said.

According to his family, he was detained by the regime's forces in Gaza in November 2023. They said he had no known health issues before being abducted.

Abu Warda's death brought the number of Palestinians who died in the regime's detention to 50 since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures.

According to the statement, the latest death is a new crime in the Israeli system of brutality, which has now reached its peak since the start of Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023.

Israel's treatment of Palestinian prisoners is another face of the genocide, with the intent to carry out more executions and targeted killings of detainees, it added.

The two prisoner rights groups also warned that the number of victims among prisoners will continue to rise, exacerbated by the ongoing conditions of systematic torture, hunger, assaults, medical neglect, sexual violence, and the deliberate imposition of conditions that lead to severe and contagious diseases.
