Emboldened by global silence, illegal settlers set Palestinians homes ablaze in Nablus

Palestinian authorities say the global silence has emboldened “terrorist settler militias” to commit brutal attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

On Wednesday, Israeli settlers attacked two cities near Nablus, setting fire to property and vehicles of Palestinians.

According to local sources, violent settlers infiltrated the western area of Beit Furik town in eastern Nablus and burned an inhabited house. They also set fire on a house which was under construction.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the illegal settlers have been emboldened to commit these crimes by the “glaring and unjustifiable failure” of the global community to stop the Israeli killings.

Israeli settlers staged nearly 1,500 attacks over the past years against Palestinians, their land, and properties across the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.

Data from Peace Now, an Israeli anti-settlement organization, indicates that over half a million settlers reside illegally in 147 settlements and 224 outposts in the occupied territory.

The international community views the settlements as illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions. In July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
