Iran: Spread of terrorism in West Asia in no country’s interest

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian (L) and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani

President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran has condemned the recent surge in terrorist activities in northern Syria, emphasizing that the spread of insecurity in West Asia is not in the interest of any regional country.

Pezeshkian made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday afternoon.

“We want a safe region, where the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Muslim countries are respected, and regional nations coexist peacefully.

“It is, therefore, imperative for regional heads of state to step forward and ensure the security of the region before outsiders grasp the chance for interference,” the Iranian president stated.

Pezeshkian pointed to Israel’s role in spreading insecurity and terrorism across the Muslim world, stating that the Zionist regime does not want Muslim nations to live in peace.

“This would make it highly essential for the Muslim Ummah to reconcile differences, and forge convergence and unity.”

The Iranian president appreciated Qatar’s efforts as a mediator in regional conflicts, particularly concerning Israel’s campaign of genocide in Gaza, expressing hope that the kingdom would continue to help restore regional peace.

He hoped Iran and Qatar strengthen unity and cohesion among Muslim countries, and improve peace and security in the region.

Pezeshkian hailed close Tehran-Doha relations and the agreements already signed between the two neighboring countries.

He said Iran is resolved to implement the accords and a high-level Iranian economic delegation is set to visit Qatar to participate in a meeting of the joint economic commission and explore avenues for quick enactment of agreements.

For his part, the Qatari emir highlighted his country's common views with Iran on regional issues, particularly Gaza and Lebanon as well as the urgent need to maintain Syria’s territorial integrity.

“We believe that the unfolding developments in Syria testify that stability and security in Syria can only be ensured through diplomacy. Hence we are fully prepared to play a role in establishing peace in Syria through a political agreement.”
