Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran is ready to improve cooperation with Syria to overcome the ongoing crisis in the Arab country in the wake of the resurgence of terrorism.
In a phone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday, Pezeshkian said Iran closely monitors the developments in Syria.
He said his consultations with heads of regional states and diplomatic moves by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi aim to boost convergence and coordination in the battle against terrorism.
“In cooperation and interaction with Muslim countries, we will definitely thwart efforts by the Zionists to disrupt unity among Muslims and spread terrorism and insecurity in the region,” Pezeshkian said.
Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Pezeshkian stated, is a cornerstone of Iran’s regional strategy.
“We believe that Syria will once again overcome the Zionist plots. Iran stands with the Syrian government and people to that end.”
Iran was the first country to help Syria following the outbreak of foreign-sponsored violence in 2011.
In 2017, Syrian forces, backed by Iran and Russia, scored a monumental victory over the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
However, the country’s northern parts remained under the control of militants and foreign occupation forces.
On November 27, terror outfits, led by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Shams (HTS), launched their largest attack in Syria in years, taking control of parts of Aleppo, and advancing southward on the city of Hama.
On Monday, Syria’s state television said roughly 320 terrorists had been killed by the government forces near the cities of Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama.
The toll took to nearly 1,300 the number of terrorists eliminated as a result of joint operations by Syrian and Russian forces.
Assad: US, Israel plot to disintegrate Syria
President Assad said the recent coordinated terrorist activities in northern Syria fall in a new phase of war plotted by the US and Israel to target Syria’s independence and security.
“The terrorist escalation reflects the far-reaching goals of dividing the region and fragmenting the countries there and redraw the map in line with the objectives of the United States and the West.”
Regional countries should know that the Resistance front is combating the enemy and thwarting Western dominance over the region, Assad said.
The Syrian president, however, warned that any harm to the Resistance front or the independence of regional countries would have consequences for other states.
