An Israeli attack has killed at least two Lebanese soldiers and wounded some others after the regime forces directly targeted a military post in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese army confirmed in a statement that the soldiers came under attack in the town of al-Mari on Sunday.
“The Israeli enemy directly targeted an army center” in Mari in the Hasbaya area, causing “the death of one of the soldiers and the wounding of three others, one of whom is in critical condition,” the statement read
A separate statement shortly afterward said “a second soldier” had died of his wounds.
At least three dozen soldiers from the Lebanese army have been killed since Israel began an aggression against Gaza and Lebanon in October 2023, according to an announcement by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
“With the martyrdom of two more soldiers today as a result of the Israeli enemy directly targeting an army post in the town of al-Mari-Hasbaya, the number of army martyrs since the start of the Israeli aggression has risen to 36.”
The soldiers "gave their lives defending the nation's land," Mikati said.
This comes as the Israeli military presses ahead with its aggression against Lebanon, causing more deaths and destruction. The authorities have reported nearly 150 attacks by Israel in a single day.
The death toll from the Israeli aggression against Lebanon since October last year has surpassed 3,450. Nearly 14,700 others have also been injured.
Most of them have lost their lives in the past month amid the intensified airstrikes and a ground offensive.
Hezbollah has been putting up stiff resistance in the face of the Israeli regime’s aggression against Lebanon.
The retaliation has featured hundreds of successful operations against the occupied territories and the Israeli forces trying to advance on southern Lebanese areas.
Hebrew-language daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli military had so far failed to “capture even a single village” in southern Lebanon despite deploying over 50,000 soldiers for the ground invasion of Lebanon.
