Trump returns to White House
Former United States President Donald Trump has won the presidential election again, defeating his democratic rival Kamala Harris after a hard-fought campaign. The vote count is still under way, but Trump has secured 277 Electoral College votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the election. The vote tally for the popular vote also stands at 51 percent votes for Trump and 47.5 percent for Harris. Trump earlier declared victory over Harris after being projected to win the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. Meanwhile the Republican Party has reclaimed control of the United States Senate, ending two years of Democratic leadership.
Confronting Israeli aggression
The secretary-general of Hezbollah movement says the resistance group is fully prepared for a long war with Israel. Sheikh Naim Qassem said the assassination of key leaders will not weaken Hezbollah. He paid tribute to the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, describing him as a unifying force. He stressed Hezbollah is still alive and continues to thrive, drawing inspiration from Nasrallah's spirit and leadership. Regarding any potential ceasefire agreement with Israel, Qassem said Hezbollah will only accept a proposal that effectively ends Israeli aggression and protects Lebanon's sovereignty.
Israel in crisis
Tensions are rising in Israel as opposition leaders slam prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his controversial decision to fire his minister of military affairs. At a joint press conference, they accused Netanyahu of risking security for political purposes. They warned that the prime minister’s decision is a troubling prioritization of political interests over the safety of people, especially in a time of war. Netanyahu sacked Yoav Gallant in a surprise announcement on Tuesday evening, causing widespread protests across the occupied territories. Israel Katz, the former foreign minister and a longtime Netanyahu loyalist, has replaced Gallant.
