Friday prayer leader martyred in southern Iran after armed attack

The Friday prayer leader in the southwestern Iranian city of Kazeroun has been martyred after succumbing to the wounds that he had suffered during an armed attack.

Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Mesbahi suffered the injuries during the attack that saw an armed assailant opening fire at him after he led the prayers in the city on Friday.

Following the attack, the victim was transferred to the Namazi Hospital in Shiraz, the capital of the Fars Province, but ascended to martyrdom, despite being placed under intensive medical attention.

Mohammad Ali Bekhrad, Kazeroun’s governor, confirmed the incident.

Mesbahi used to serve as Kazeroun’s Friday prayer leader since 2019. Prior to that, he had been serving as Friday prayer leader in Fars’s Kharameh County for nine years.

Relevant judicial authorities are investigating the attack that led to Mesbahi’s martyrdom.
