Hamas: Sinwar represents school of thought, current of Resistance

The representative of Hamas in Tehran, Khaled Qaddoumi, speaks in an exclusive interview with the English-language Press TV news network in Tehran, Iran, on October 21, 2024.

The representative of Hamas in Tehran has paid homage to the late leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Yahya Sinwar, stating that he represents a "school of thought" and symbolizes a current of Resistance against the Israeli occupation and aggression.

Khaled Qaddoumi made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Monday.

“Sinwar was a phenomenon. He was not an average individual. He represents a school of thought,” he said, noting that the martyred Hamas chief “was a man, who lived his life the way he and his nation wished and passed away as he desired. He imposed such facts on his enemy.”

Qaddoumi went on to say that Sinwar spent his whole life as a star and died as such.

“He captured the hearts and minds of the young [Palestinian] generation, and was a fairly determined fellow fighter. He viewed every agony and suffering endured as an inseparable part of his own life, and a sacrifice for Palestine and the Palestinian nation,” the Hamas official stated.

He described Sinwar as an ever-lasting icon of resistance. “He is a current… He tutored lots of resistance fighters and mobilized many combatants because of his iconic and ideological lifestyle. He impressed others. He is a distinct personality.”

Qaddoumi highlighted that Palestinian fighters schooled under Sinwar’s teachings could kill the commander of the Israeli army 401st Armored Brigade, Colonel Ehsan Daqsa, during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday.

According to an Israeli military statement, Daqsa's tank and another tank were hit by explosive devices during offensives in Jabalia.

“Sinwar fought until the last moment of his life for the sake of his homeland. Even when he was gravely injured and unable to stand on his feet, he threw a stick at the drone that was filming him with fear. Sinwar was really invincible. He is immortal forever,” Qaddoumi said.

Sinwar was found dead in southern Gaza’s Rafah city on Thursday, wearing a combat vest with an AK-47 rifle by his side. Hamas confirmed his assassination in a statement on Friday.

The charismatic leader of the Palestinian resistance movement had escaped many assassination attempts before and after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023.

Sinwar, 62, played an instrumental role in coordinating and supervising the landmark operation that jolted the Zionist regime and shattered the myth of its invincibility.

Before becoming Hamas’ political leader, Sinwar served as the group’s military leader in Gaza for seven consecutive years. He had spent 22 years in an Israeli prison before being released as part of a prisoner swap in 2011.

In a statement mourning Sinwar’s death, Hamas vowed his death would only strengthen the movement, adding that it wouldn’t compromise on conditions to reach a ceasefire deal with Israel.
