Israel shells Lebanese town with banned phosphorous munitions: Report

Israeli forces have used internationally banned phosphorus munitions during a series of recent deadly airstrikes in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese media.

Israeli warplanes targeted cities, coinciding with artillery shelling using phosphorus shells on the outskirts of Kfar Shuba, which ignited fires in the town's forests, Lebanon’s state news agency reported on Sunday.

Reports said that Israeli forces shelled the nearby town of Al-Qantara during its ongoing campaign of death and destruction.

Israeli warplanes also staged fresh airstrikes in the southern suburb of Beirut, including the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut's Dahiyeh suburb,

Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah recently confirmed that Israel poured “missiles loaded with cluster bombs” over neighborhoods in southern Lebanon.

The reports also indicate the recent bombing of the capital Beirut and its suburbs with missiles containing depleted uranium and chemicals not only aims to destroy the infrastructure of the country but also poison the soil, air, water, and bodies of thousands of people, according to experts.

On September 27, Israeli occupation forces dropped over 80 tons of explosives when F-35 aircraft carried out airstrikes on the southern suburb of Beirut using bunker-buster bombs, which contained depleted uranium (DU).

The rights organization says the Israeli army is escalating its genocide against Palestinians by committing more massacres in northern Gaza.

In the aftermath, six buildings were razed to the ground and a massive and deep crater was formed in the devastating bombing that led to the assassination of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and a number of his companions.

In other attacks across the suburb, Israeli media reported that 2,000 tons of explosives were dropped using the same technique, leaving deep craters behind.

This is not the first time Israel has used banned munitions against the people in and Lebanon. 

Israel used US-made white phosphorus bombs in Lebanon: Report

The Washington Post has investigated the matter.

In March this year, Israel used white phosphorus bombs in south Lebanon again, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW). Later in June, it released a report, warning that the regime’s “use of airburst white phosphorus munitions in populated areas indiscriminately harms."

In its investigation, HRW also verified the use of white phosphorus munitions by the Israeli military in at least 17 municipalities across south Lebanon since October 2023, when it launched its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah says Israel rained down cluster bombs on southern Lebanon

Cluster munitions are globally prohibited because they cause both immediate and long-term civilian harm.

The Israeli military presses ahead with its relentless bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip now more than one year into the genocidal war.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza began in October last year, claiming the lives of more than 42,600 so far.

Since late September, Israel has launched an intense air and ground offensive against Lebanon after nearly a year of cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah over the war in Gaza. The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since last October now stands at above 2,440, with nearly 11,500 injured.
