Funeral for Gen. Nilforoushan
A funeral ceremony has been held in the Iranian city of Mashhad for Major General Abbas Nilforoushan, who was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut along with Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah last month. The body of Martyr Major General Abbas Nilforoushan arrived in Mashhad following funeral ceremonies in the capital Tehran. On Monday, General Nilforoushan’s body was taken from Beirut to the Iraqi holy cities of Karbala and Najaf where a large crowd attended the funeral, including representatives of Iraqi political groups. Ceremonies are also planned in Isfahan before his burial there on Thursday.
Resistance retaliation
The Hezbollah resistance movement continues retaliatory operations against Israel along Lebanon’s southern border, targeting the regime’s military sites and settlements. In one of its latest attacks, Hezbollah fighters targeted the Israeli artillery facilities in Dalton and Dishon with a barrage of rockets. Hezbollah fighters also fired a salvo of rockets at Israeli settlement of Yiftah, north of the occupied territories. Hezbollah said its retaliatory operations were in support of Palestinians in Gaza and their resistance and in defense of Lebanon and its people amid Israel's ongoing aggression against the country.
Iran warns Israel
Iran’s foreign minister has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to regional peace and security but warns that the Islamic Republic is fully prepared to give a decisive and regretful response to any adventurism by the Israeli regime. Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. While exchanging views on the latest developments in West Asia, including in Lebanon and Gaza, Araghchi blamed Israel and its main backer, the United States, for growing insecurity in the region. The top Iranian diplomat urged Guterres to utilize UN resources to halt Israeli aggressions and provide humanitarian aid to Lebanon and Gaza. The UN chief, for his part, expressed concern over escalating tensions and the implications of Israeli attacks. Guterres emphasized the need for a political solution aimed at ending the war and helping Palestinian and Lebanese victims.
