Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Australian ambassador in Tehran to protest his country's “biased and unjustified” stance on recent developments in the region and the Israeli regime’s adventurism that escalates regional tensions.

On Sunday, Ali Asghar Mohammadi, the Director General of the East Asia and Oceania Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, summoned Ian McConville to express Iran's discontent with Australia’s repeated positions, which are contrary to the principles of international law.

Mohammadi said Israel has intensified tensions in the region by assassinating Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Secretary General of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforushan, the Deputy Commander for Operations of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).

He slammed Australia’s double standard policies on the regional developments and its inaction on the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Mohammadi reiterated Tehran’s inherent right to self-defense in the face of Israel’s repeated violation of the Islamic Republic’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its nationals and interests.

He said the recent missile attack by the Iranian armed forces against Israel was a legal and responsible move which was necessary to safeguard national security and regional stability.

The Islamic Republic launched hundreds of missiles towards the Israeli entity’s military, and espionage and intelligence bases all over the occupied territories on October 1 as part of Operation True Promise II.

The Iranian official once again stressed the need to put an immediate end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its aggression against Lebanon and urged Australia and Western supporters of the Tel Aviv regime to play a responsible role in this regard.

Mohammadi warned that unilateral and biased approaches to the regional developments and a self-centered interpretation of international rules and norms will fail to help ease tensions in the region, but will embolden the aggressor to continue its crimes.

The Australian ambassador, for his part, outlined his country’s measures to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and said he would convey Iran's protest to his country.
