Iranian law enforcement forces have arrested three members of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the country’s northern province of Mazandaran, thwarting their plot to carry out an act of terror.

The police chief of Nowshahr said on Saturday that the militants were planning to commit a terrorist attack against a popular tourist spot in the northern city.

He added that the terrorists were detected and captured following timely measures by Nowshahr police forces.

Earlier this year, Iranian intelligence forces captured 14 members of the Daesh terrorist group in four provinces across the country.

The Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced in a statement on August 23 that the terrorists had been arrested in the provinces of Tehran, Alborz, Fars and Khuzestan in a series of operations.

Those arrested were affiliated with the “American-Zionist grouplet known as Daesh Khorasan (Daesh-K)”, the statement added.

They had illegally entered Iran in a matter of few days to carry out terrorist operations, the Intelligence Ministry noted.

Seven of the Daesh elements were arrested in Fars province alone, while the rest were captured in the three other provinces, it added.
