Iran's foreign ministry hails ‘responsible’ retaliation, warns Israel against provocations

The Foreign Ministry has hailed Iran’s “responsible” retaliation to the Israeli regime’s litany of acts of aggression against the Islamic Republic and other regional countries.

The retaliation that came “following a prolonged period of restraint, demonstrates Iran's responsible approach to regional and international peace and security,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the country launched hundreds of missiles toward the Zionist entity’s military and intelligence bases in a retaliatory attack dubbed Operation True Promise II, which set off sirens all over the occupied Palestinian territories.

Flares and missiles were seen in the Tel Aviv sky and explosions could be heard in the occupied al-Quds, while “direct hits” were reported in Negev, Sharon, and other locations.

The operation came in response to the regime’s assassinations of Hamas’ chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan.

The ministry asserted that the Islamic Republic had resorted to the reaction in line with its “inherent right to self-defense,” which has been outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The statement reminded that the response came “at a time when illegal and genocidal acts by the occupying apartheid Zionist regime against the Palestinian people and repeated military aggressions by this regime against Lebanon and Syria continue unabated."

It characterized Iran’s response as being “based on moral and religious principles,” contrasting it with the Israeli regime’s constant way of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructural facilities.

The ministry, meanwhile, cautioned the regime against attempting any further provocations.

“Iran is fully prepared to take further defensive measures, if necessary, to protect its legitimate interests and defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty against any act of military aggression or unlawful use of force. Iran will not hesitate in this regard."

The statement called on the UN Security Council to take “immediate and meaningful” action to prevent the regime from threatening regional and international peace and security.

It finally cautioned the regime’s political and military supporters against partaking in “third-party interference” in the matter.
