Islamic Jihad censures Israeli strikes on Yemen’s Hudaydah as 'war crime'
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) resistance movement has condemned Israeli airstrikes on the strategic western Yemeni city of Hudaydah, which killed at least four people killed and injured dozens of others, as a "war crime".
In a statement, the Gaza-based group referred to the attack against civilian and service facilities in the coastal city as a “complete war crime.”
“This war crime of Zionists adds to the list of atrocities committed by the enemy in shedding the blood of Muslim and Arab peoples,” the statement read.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad also appreciated the resilience and courage of Yemeni nation in supporting Palestinians and their resistance front.
In a statement on Sunday, the Israeli military said dozens of aircraft, including fighter jets, attacked power plants and sea port facilities at the Ras Isa and Hudaydah ports.
Yemen’s al-Masirah TV channel, citing health officials, reported that the attack killed at least four people – one port worker and three electric engineers, along with 49 others injured in an initial toll of the Israeli aggression.
Rescue and emergency teams are still searching for missing persons under the rubble of the al-Hali power station, it added.
Footage posted on social media showed smoke rising from the area.
The air raids also caused power outages in most parts of Hudaydah, according to residents.
The attack came a day after Yemeni Armed Forces fired a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv in the Israeli-occupied territories.
Yemen's Supreme Political Council said on Sunday that the Israeli strikes will not stop its “support for the Palestinian people”.
“The Israeli aggression will only increase the Yemeni people’s determination to continue their stance,” the executive body said in a statement.
Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have said they will not stop their attacks until unrelenting Israeli ground and aerial offensives in Gaza end.
So far, Israel has killed at least 41,595 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 96,251 others in Gaza.
