Iran has condemned Israel's "violent attacks" on Gaza and Beirut, stating that the international community’s "inaction" serves to normalize "crime and villainy" by Tel Aviv.
The condemnation by Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani came after at least 15 Palestinians were killed on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced individuals in the Jabaliya refugee camp, in northern Gaza. An Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburb of Dahiyeh also killed at least two people and wounded 15 others.
“We condemn today’s barbaric attack by the Zionist regime on the refugee school in the Jabalia camp in #Gaza, as well as the violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the airstrike on the southern suburbs of #Beirut in the strongest terms,” Kan’ani said in a post on X.
Kan’ani further criticized the international community’s inaction regarding Israel's continued violations in Palestine and Lebanon.
“The result of the international community’s inaction against Israel’s criminal regime and its war crimes in #Palestine and #Lebanon is nothing but the normalization of crime and evil,” he said.
This failure to act, he added, would “discredit the United Nations, international law, and international treaties and conventions.”
Kan’ani warned that continued inaction would lead to "increasing and irreparable threats to international peace and security."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of an impending, unprecedented catastrophe in West Asia due to Israel’s aggression and crimes against regional nations.
Addressing an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Lebanon, Araghchi said the only way to prevent further escalation is for Israel to immediately cease its war on Gaza and halt its attacks on Lebanon.
Israel has killed nearly 41,500 Palestinians and wounded 96,006 in Gaza since October 2023.
In Lebanon, recent Israeli attacks have left over 1,540 people dead and approximately 5,410 injured.
