Iran has condemned the suppression of anti-Israel demonstrations in the United States, Britain and Germany, criticizing the West’s complicity in the crimes of Israel.
During the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ali Bahraini stated, “The US support for the Zionist regime is a blatant violation of the Genocide Convention.”
Bahraini expressed concern over the arrest of more than 3,000 protesters, including professors, across over 60 higher education institutions in the United States, particularly those protesting the crimes of Israel.
He emphasized that such measures represent a severe “violation of freedom of expression and assembly.”
Protest camps emerged across the States in March, including on University of California campuses, with students demanding their universities end business relations with Israel or companies supporting the genocide in Gaza.
Bahraini also condemned the UK police for shutting down peaceful protests by students in New Castle and Oxford, describing the move as “a clear violation of human rights.”
The Iranian envoy also referred to the anti-Israel protests in Germany, where protesters faced persecution and legal action.
He pointed to the dismissal of thousands of individuals in Germany, labeling it a violation of Articles 31 and 33 of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Bahraini said the new EU migration pact diverges from the principles of the convention.
He urged the Human Rights Council and its associated mechanisms to prioritize these critical issues and take concrete steps to address these human rights violations.
