Iran envoy condemns Israel's cyber terrorism in Lebanon

Iran’s ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani

Iran's UN ambassador has strongly condemned Israel's acts of terrorism against Lebanon, saying the Zionist Israeli regime must be held accountable for the heinous crime.

Amir Saeid Iravani made the remarks while addressing an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday on the Illegal Israeli Actions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

He condemned the Tel Aviv regime for blowing up communication systems in Beirut through cyber terrorism resulting in deaths and injuries of thousands of people, including the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian envoy offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the Lebanese government, and strongly condemned the act of sabotage and terrorism.

In his speech, Iravani also called on the world body to accept Palestine as a full member and reconsider Israel’s membership for its constant violations of international law and norms.

He called Israel’s aggressions in Gaza and across the West Bank, long-lasting threats to peace and security.

The envoy urged the UN to find effective measures to put an end to the regime’s violations.

Iravani also slammed Israel’s total impunity for killing and displacing Palestinians and occupying their lands.

A number of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah as well as civilians were killed and thousands more wounded after wireless communication devices, known as pagers, exploded in different locations across the country on Tuesday.

The Lebanese health ministry said at least nine people were killed and 2,800 others wounded in the explosions that were first reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

"Patients are being transferred to different governorates in Lebanon as hospitals in southern Lebanon have exceeded their capacity," the ministry stated.

Among those killed are a 9-year-old girl and son of a lawmaker affiliated with Hezbollah, Press TV correspondent in Beirut Mariam Saleh said in a report from the Lebanese capital.

The little girl has been identified as Fatima Jafar Abdullah while the young man is Mahdi Ammar, son of 'Loyalty to the Resistance' bloc MP Ali Ammar.

Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, is also among the injured. His wife took to X, formerly Twitter, to confirm his injury in the pager explosion but said his condition was stable.
