Iran determined to increase interaction with Persian Gulf states: Deputy FM
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi says the country is determined to hold constant consultation and interaction with the eight littoral states of the Persian Gulf.
Takht Ravanchi made the remarks during a meeting with heads of the representatives of the Persian Gulf littoral states in Tehran on Sunday.
He said the new administration in Iran attaches special importance to the expansion of ties with the neighbors, particularly the Persian Gulf countries and will devise plans to improve relations in all issues of common interest.
“The geographical proximity and bonds as well as the commonalities among the eight Persian Gulf countries have prepared an appropriate ground for holding dialogue and consultations among us,” the Iranian diplomat added.
He stressed the importance of developing cooperation among the Persian Gulf countries on all issues of common interest.
Takht Ravanchi noted that all the eight Persian Gulf countries have a common stance on issues such as economic cooperation, transit, the environment, shipping, the fight against drug trafficking and the coast guard.
He said Iran is prepared to promote cooperation in the region through dialogue and interaction.
In a phone call with Secretary General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi late in August, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called for a "new phase" of mutual understanding and cooperation.
