Pezeshkian Iraq visit

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Erbil, the capital city of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, on the second day of his three-day visit to the neighboring country. This is the first official visit to Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region by any Iranian president since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Pezeshkian was welcomed by the head of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani. The two sides held joint meetings and exchanged views on bilateral issues. He is set to meet other top officials of the Kurdistan region, including Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. After Erbil, the Iranian president will travel to the city of Sulaymaniyah to meet with the leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. Pezeshkian is also scheduled to visit Basra as well as the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. On Wednesday, he met with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani. The two nations signed 14 memoranda of understanding. 

US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

The Israeli regime has launched new strikes on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 20 Palestinians. The latest attacks targeted Bureij, Nuseirat and Jabalia refugee camps. Several people also lost their lives in an airstrike on the southern city of Rafah. Two people were also killed after their house was targeted in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood. Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October last year. Over 41,100 Palestinians have been killed since then. Most of the casualties are women and children. 

Israeli killing of peace activist

An investigation by the Washington Post into the death of a Turkish-American female activist challenges the Israeli military's assertion that she was shot unintentionally during a protest in the occupied West Bank. The US daily, which analyzed 50 videos and over a dozen of witness accounts, reveals Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was shot more than half an hour after confrontations peaked and 20 minutes after protesters had moved some 200 yards away from Israeli forces. The military has not addressed why the troops fired upon demonstrators who were posing no apparent threat. Eygi, 26, had recently arrived to volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement and was protesting against settlements in Beita. Her family is demanding an independent investigation, while the Turkish Foreign Ministry has condemned her death as a murder, recalling previous incidents involving American activists in the occupied territories.
