Hamas condemns persecution of resistance fighters by Palestinian Authority security forces

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned the persecution of resistance fighters by the Palestinian Authority security forces in the occupied West Bank and the defamation campaigns against them.   

“We call for unity in the field of confrontation and defense of our people,” Hamas said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemns the arrest campaign currently being conducted by the [Palestinian Authority] Security Forces, which is concentrated in the Nablus governorate and targets resistance fighters, activists, and freed prisoners,” it said.  

Hamas also denounced the character assassination campaigns against them by spreading rumors and fabricating accusations.

“At a time when the brutal occupation's aggression is escalating in the West Bank governorates, the PA Security Forces insists on continuing to attack our internal cradle and the Palestinian social fabric by persisting in political arrests and persecution, completely disregarding all calls to stop these humiliating arrests, which insult the sacrifices of our revolutionary people, in full alignment with the occupation and its escalating aggression,” the resistance movement said.

“We call on the PA to immediately cease these practices, to restrain its Security Forces from targeting our resistance fighters, to release all political detainees from its prisons, and to direct these Forces to unite in the true field of confrontation to defend our people and our land,” it added.

Hamas and other Palestinian factions in the besieged Gaza Strip have jointly called for mobilization in defense of the occupied West Bank against Israel’s largest assault on the territory in years.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Committee of National and Islamic Forces in Gaza, consisting of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement, and several other factions, has called on all Palestinians to confront the ongoing Israeli deadly raids on the occupied West Bank.

The committee strongly called on the PA and its affiliated security services to “carry out its duties to protect the Palestinian people” and “take the initiative to the field of honor and dignity and confront the Zionists and their settler gangs.”

The resistance groups also urged all Palestinians to “mobilize for a general confrontation and open engagement with the enemy to defend the land and identity and support our people in the northern West Bank.”

The UN says many Palestinians including children have been killed while posing no imminent threat.

Since October 2023, the West Bank has seen a rise in violence by Israeli forces and settlers that has claimed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians.

After nearly 11 months of conflict, the Tel Aviv regime has killed more than 40,600 Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, and extensive regions of Gaza are devastated, compounded by a severe blockade restricting access to food, clean water, and medical supplies.
