Hamas warns against Israeli hawkish minister's plan to build temple at al-Aqsa Mosque

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has warned that the confirmation by Israeli extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of his intention to build a Jewish synagogue inside al-Aqsa Mosque is a dangerous declaration.

"What was revealed by the terrorist minister Ben Gvir this morning represents a dangerous declaration that reflects the true intentions of the occupation regime towards Al-Aqsa and its Arab and Islamic identity, as well as its criminal steps aimed at Judaizing it and tightening control over it," the resistance group said in a statement on Monday

The far-right Israeli minister earlier said that if he could, he would build a synagogue on the al-Asqa Mosque complex in occupied East al-Quds.

"If I could do what I wanted, a synagogue would also be established on the Temple Mount," Ben Gvir, who has a long record of making inflammatory statements, told Israel's Army Radio on Monday morning.

Hamas called on Palestinian youth to mobilize at the al-Aqsa compound to maintain a presence in its courtyards and to confront the plans of the occupying regime.

"We also call on our valiant resistance and our revolutionary youth in the occupied West Bank to escalate their clashes with the criminal enemy and its settler herds," the statement read.

Ben Gvir and several other Israeli politicians have long violated the delicate arrangement and facilitated raids on the holy site and performed rituals.

This is while the al-Aqsa Mosque — the third-holiest site in Islam — is forbidden to non-Muslim prayers and rituals based on decades-long international agreements.

The resistance group said the regime has given a free hand to its extremist ministers to implement their malicious plans in the occupied al-Quds.

"Desecrating, storming, and conducting provocative tours in it on a daily basis—are policies that pour more fuel on the fire and will only be met with more resistance from our people to protect our sanctities."

Hamas also called on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take "serious action to stop these systemic violations of the holy site".

"The Arab and Islamic nations must bear their responsibilities in protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque," it said.

"Islamic countries led by the OIC are called to stand up to their responsibilities, to take a firm stance against the occupation's plans and its blatant attacks on Islamic and Christian sanctities, foremost of which is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque," it added.

Elsewhere in the statement, Hamas said that the regime's plan is a part of unprecedented crimes being committed by the "fascist regime" in the besieged Gaza Strip and "extensive violations" in the occupied West Bank.

More Palestinians continue to fall victim to the US-Israeli genocide as relentless air and artillery strikes continue to pound the blockaded territory.

Since last October, the Israeli genocidal war killed at least 40,435 Palestinians and injured over 93,534 others.
