Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian is reportedly poised to make his first foreign trip since taking office to neighboring Iraq.
Citing sources, the reports published on Sunday said that Pezeshkian will pay an official visit to Baghdad at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid.
The trip will take place before Pezeshkian’s scheduled visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York for the General Assembly meeting.
Back in June, Iran’s then interim foreign minister Ali Bagheri Kani traveled to Iraq, where he underscored the necessity of easing tensions and resolving conflicts across West Asia.
“Iran and Iraq are two main pillars in the region and are responsible for promotion of the security of the region,” he said at a joint press conference after a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Baghdad.
Bagheri Kani also stressed that the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip must stop, urging Muslim countries to act toward the goal.
