Russian forces have taken control of a village in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region as Ukrainian forces claim striking a bridge on Russian territory.
Citing defense ministry sources, the TASS state news agency reported on Sunday that the village of Svyrydonivka had been captured by Russian forces. The frontline village is about 15 kilometers away from the Ukrainian logistics hub of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.
Russian armed forces stepped up their military offensive on Pokrovsk following Kiev's attack on Russia earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Kiev's military claimed Ukrainian armed forces had hit a bridge in Russia’s Kursk region as they sought to disrupt Moscow’s combat operations in the area.
“Minus one more bridge. The Air Force aviation continues to deprive the enemy of logistical capabilities with precision air strikes,” Ukraine’s air force said on Sunday.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said the Kiev forces had published a video of their precision air strike on the bridge.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces mounted a surprise invasion sending thousands of troops across Russia’s western border into the Kursk region in what was described as Ukrainian forces' biggest attack on Russian soil since the Ukraine war started in February 2022.
The West has loaded Ukrainian armed forces with an overwhelming supply of Western weapons and ammunition since Russia launched its military campaign in Donbas.
Despite the West's all-out support for Kiev, the former Soviet republic has failed to gain significant military objectives in the US-led Western countries' proxy war against Russia.
In related news, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Sunday that Kiev has stationed more than 120,000 soldiers along its border with Belarus.
Lukashenko, who is a close ally to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said he had ordered the deployment of Belarusian armed forces along the entire border in response to the Ukrainian deployment.
