US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

More than 10 months into the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza, the regime’s military keeps pounding the blockaded territory with air and artillery strikes. At least three Palestinians are killed in the latest Israeli bombing of a home in the al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City. To the south of the strip, Israeli warplanes struck areas near Khan Yunis, killing at least three people and injuring several others. An unknown number of people have also been killed in shelling of other areas across the Strip. Hunger, malnutrition and lack of medical treatment are also taking their toll, with a four-year-old girl being the latest victim. The Israeli aggression against Gaza which began in October has so far claimed the lives of nearly 40-thousand and injured over 92-thousand others.

Israeli strikes on schools

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has sounded the alarm about the impact of the Israeli aggression against Gaza on the education of Palestinian children. According to UNRWA’s commissioner general, about 625,000 children across the blockaded territory have lost one year of school. Philippe Lazzarini said Israel’s strikes on Gaza have rendered most of its schools unusable, as four in five school buildings have been directly hit or damaged. He said 95 percent of schools destroyed by Israel were being used as shelters for the displaced people of Gaza. Lazzarini also condemned Israel’s strikes on schools as a sign of the regime’s blatant disregard for international humanitarian law. He warned that the longer children stay out of school, the more difficult it becomes for them to catch up on learning losses.

Russia-Ukraine war

Russian and Ukrainian troops are engaged in heavy fighting for a second week after Kiev’s forces launched a cross-border attack and advanced into Russia's Kursk region. Kiev says its forces are continuing to move toward the Russian territory from several directions. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his troops have advanced well into Kursk. The amount of Russian territory seized remains uncertain as both countries making conflicting statements. Earlier, Moscow said it had repelled Ukrainian attempts to push further into five areas. Also the Russian president vowed to "dislodge" Ukrainian troops from the Russian territory. Vladimir Putin described the offensive as a Western-backed plot to give Kiev a stronger hand in possible future ceasefire talks. Since the Ukrainian offensive, more than 120-thousand Russians have been evacuated from border areas.
