Russia's military has stepped up its offensive against Ukraine in Kursk and Pokrovsk regions.

The Russian troops targeted Ukrainian forces with airstrikes in the region on Tuesday, repelling the attempted invasion of Ukrainian troops.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Kiev has lost up to 420 servicemen in the direction in the past 24 hours.

"During the day, the losses of the armed forces of Ukraine amounted to 420 military personnel, 55 armored vehicles, including three tanks, eight armored personnel carriers, an infantry fighting vehicle, 43 armored combat vehicles, 31 vehicles, a multiple rocket launcher," the ministry said.

Russian forces repelled a Ukrainian attack near the settlement of Martynovka settlement, where up to 15 enemy soldiers destroyed, the ministry said, adding that the military defeated Ukrainian troops in the Mikhailovka, Korenevo, Nikolayevo-Darino, Oleshnya, Sudzha and Nikolaevka.

Russia’s MoD also published footage of Sukhoi Su-34 bombers striking Ukrainian troops in the Kursk border region, and of infantry storming Ukrainian positions.

“The uncontrolled ride of the enemy has already been halted,” said Major General Apti Alaudinov, the commander of the Chechen Akhmat special forces unit, according to the Reuters news agency. “The enemy is already aware that the blitzkrieg that it planned did not work out.”

Ukrainian forces launched an attack on Russia's territory a week ago, breaking through the border while the Russians were off guard.

On a separate front in eastern Ukraine, Russian troops have increased efforts in trying to advance towards Kiev's logistics hub of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's General Staff said on Tuesday that Russian troops in the last 24 hours were focused around the villages of Hrodivka and Zhelanne, located just 20km to Pokrovsk,

The Ukrainian military said Russian armed forces have stepped up their offensive on the Pokrovsk front over the last 24 hours, reporting the largest number of battles in the area in a single day in a week.

In a daily readout, the Ukrainian military’s General Staff said there had been 52 battles on the Pokrovsk front, a visible increase from figures of between 28 and 42 per day that were reported over the past week. The readout said the battles on the Pokrovsk front accounted for more than a third of all the battles reported along the 1,000-kilometer border.

Since Russia launched its military campaign in Donbas in February 2022, the West has flooded Ukraine with an overwhelming supply of Western weapons and ammunition to help strengthen the Kiev forces against Russian troops.

Despite the all-out support for Kiev by the US-led Western countries, the former Soviet republic has failed to gain any militarily-significant objectives in the West's proxy war against Russia.
