Iranian athletes praised for stellar Olympic performance among West Asian nations

Mohammad Hadi Saravi, Iranian gold medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling

Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has praised Iranian athletes for turning the country into the one with the most impressive array of medals among the West Asian nations who participated at Paris 2024 Olympics.

In a post on the X social media platform, Bagheri Kani hailed the athletes’ “achievement of the highest rank among the West Asia countries at the Olympics.”

The top diplomat commended the triumph as “an honor that the capable and zealous sons and daughters of our country created by hoisting the Islamic Republic’s flag many times in these games.”

He singled out the glorious performance of the Iranian female athletes in the event, describing it as a sign of “existence of diligence and [proper] planning towards development and fruition of young females’ talents in the Islamic Republic and their resolve and will to shine and make progress.”

Iran ended up 21st on the event’s medal table, with three golds, six silvers, and three bronzes.

The gold medals were won by Mohammad Hadi Saravi and Saedi Esmaeili in Greco-Roman wrestling, and Arian Salimi in taekwondo.

The silvers were bagged by Alireza Mohmadi in Greco-Roman wrestling; Hassan Yazdani, Amir-Hossein Zare, and Rahman Amouzad in freestyle wrestling; and Nahid Kiani and Mehran Barkhordari in taekwondo.

Amin Mirzazadeh, Amir Ali Azarpira, and Mobina Nematzadeh earned bronzes for the country in Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, and taekwondo respectively.
