Russia has destroyed dozens of Ukrainian UAVs flying over its airspace overnight, says the Defense Ministry.

The ministry said on Sunday that its air defense systems destroyed 35 UAVs flying over the Russian regions of Kursk, Voronezh, Belgorod, Bryansk and Oryol.

“During the past night, attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks using fixed-wing type UAVs and Tochka-U tactical missiles against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation were thwarted,” the Defense Ministry said.

Russian “air defense systems destroyed 14 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles ... over the territory of the Kursk region, 16 UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Voronezh region, 3 UAVs [were shot down] over the Belgorod region, and one UAV each was destroyed over the territories of the Bryansk and Oryol regions,” it added.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian forces launched a surprise invasion into Russian territory in what was described as Kiev’s biggest attack on Russia’s soil since the Ukraine war started in February 2022.

In the attack, Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia and launched an incursion into the Kursk Region, capturing several villages. However, their advance deep into Russian territory has been halted by Russian armed forces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the move by the US-led Ukrainians as a “large-scale provocation.”

Since February 2022, the West has flooded Ukraine with Western weapons and ammunition to support Kiev forces against Russia.
