Tens of thousands of Londoners have taken to the streets to protest against the United Kingdom’s support for Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstrators on Saturday made their way through the heart of London towards parliament, amid the heavy presence of Metropolitan Police officers.
They were holding banners and chanting slogans like; "End the genocide," and "No Middle East war."
The protesters were also holding banners that read, "Stop arming Israel," to demand a halt to the UK government;'s weapons sale to Israel, whose military has killed more than 39,550 Palestinians in Gaza since October.
Over the past ten months, huge protests have taken place in the capital and other major UK cities, demanding an immediate halt to arms sales to Israel.
A report by the UK’s Times newspaper, however, said Monday that a possible suspension by Britain of arms sales to Israel will only be made later in the summer as ministers work to determine exactly which weapon deliveries would be paused.
It said a decision will take longer because ministers want to suspend licenses for specific weapons that are linked to war crimes against the people of Gaza.
Data released by the government’s business department revealed in June that Britain had issued more than 100 export licenses for the sale of weapons and military equipment to Israel since the regime launched its savage military offensive in the populated besieged territory.
