Israel sustains deadly aggression on Lebanon, Hezbollah responds with dozens of rockets

Frame grab from a video shows the moment of a retaliatory attack by Hezbollah against the occupied Palestinian territories on July 31, 2024.

The Israeli regime sustains its deadly aggression against southern Lebanon after its recent assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander, prompting the Lebanese resistance movement to respond with dozens of retaliatory rockets.

On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a residence accommodating a Syrian family in the town of Chama in the country’s Tire District, Lebanon’s health ministry reported.

Four Syrians were killed and five Lebanese nationals wounded in the attack, it added.

Later in the day, Hezbollah released a statement, saying it had “fired dozens of Katyusha rockets at the settlement of Metzuba” in the northern part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Various reports said the movement had fired around 60 rockets towards the territories during the retaliation.

The Israeli attack came only two days after a similar strike by the regime targeted a building in a suburb of the country’s capital Beirut, assassinating Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander and an advisor to the movement’s Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

It also followed the regime’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas’ Political Bureau Chief, in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Most recently, the Hezbollah leader said fighting against the regime had entered “a new phase” after the dual assassinations. Israel had “crossed red lines” in the assassinations and it had to expect “rage and revenge on all the fronts,” he said.

The Israeli regime has been conducting sporadic attacks on Lebanon since October 7, 2023, when it launched a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip. The attacks have prompted a firefight with Hezbollah.

Hezbollah fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the Tel Aviv regime’s military on both occasions.

The movement has vowed to defend the country with all its resources in the event of another one.
