Hezbollah confirms martyrdom of Fuad Shukr in Israeli airstrike in Beirut

Fuad Shukr was a senior figure with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. He was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30, 2024.

Hezbollah has officially confirmed the martyrdom of one of its top commanders in an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut neighborhood on July 30.

Fuad Shukr, a senior figure with the Lebanese resistance movement, was assassinated when an Israeli attack drone fired three missiles at the area around Hezbollah’s Shoura Council in the Haret Hreik neighborhood.

Lebanon’s media reported the official confirmation on Wednesday.

Hezbollah issued a statement following the confirmation.

Fuad Shukr’s sacrifices, the statement said, “stand as a powerful symbol of our unwavering commitment and resolve to continue on our righteous path until the liberation of our land and holy sites.”

The killing of Shukr was carried out hours before another assassination operation. Only this time, the target was Ismail Haniyeh and the location was Iran’s capital, Tehran.

The chief of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas was assassinated during the early hours of Wednesday. He had come to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Israelis may be talking – in vain – about a “crushing blow” to the Axis of Resistance. However, resistance leaders say severe punishment awaits the perpetrators.

In Tehran, and in response to the assassination of Haniyeh, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned the Israeli regime of a “harsh response."

It is the Islamic Republic’s duty, the Leader stated, to avenge the blood of the Palestinian resistance leader.

“The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our dear guest in our homeland and left us bereaved, but it also set the ground for a harsh punishment for itself.”
