Haniyeh’s son vows Palestinians ‘will fight until freedom is achieved’

A son of Ismail Haniyeh, the late head of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement who was assassinated in a strike in the Iranian capital Tehran, has vowed the Palestinians “will fight until freedom is achieved."

Abdul Salam Haniyeh said his father had “strived for the unity of all Palestinian factions,” and that the senior Hamas leader had survived four assassination attempts.

“Allah has granted him the martyrdom that he always wished for,” he said.

The assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran came less than a day after Israel carried out a separate targeted strike against a senior Hezbollah commander in a suburb of Beirut, risking a major escalation with the Lebanese resistance movement. 

The back-to-back attacks leave the Israeli regime open to retaliation from Hamas, Hezbollah and other resistance groups in the region, as well as from Iran, which has vowed a harsh response to the assassination of the leader of an ally on its soil.

In April, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at the Israeli occupied territories in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its diplomatic premises in Syria, which left several Iranian military advisors dead.

Senior Hamas officials have vowed that the cowardly act will not go unanswered.

IRGC warns Israel of 'harsh, painful' response over Haniyeh’s killing

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has stressed that the Israeli regime will face a harsh and painful response following the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement on Wednesday morning that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence in the Iranian capital was hit in an attack.

The statement said the attack is under investigation and the results will be announced later in the day.

Kata’ib Hezbollah: Haniyeh killing shows Israel’s inability to confront resistance front

Iraq’s anti-terror group Kata’ib Hezbollah condemned the assassination of Haniyeh, stating that the killing clearly points to the fact that the Tel Aviv regime is incapable to confront the methods of the Palestinian resistance on the battlefield.

"Haniyeh’s blood was treacherously spilled by the Zionist enemy at his residence in Tehran, thus flouting all rules of engagement. The assassination was carried out under the illusion that it would undermine the resolve of Palestinian resistance fighters."

Iraq: Haniyeh killing flagrant violation of international laws

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also condemned the assassination in the strongest terms.

In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the “aggressive operation is a flagrant violation of international laws and a threat” to regional security and stability.

“It expresses its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and their leadership in these difficult moments, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to stop the repeated attacks and violations of the sovereignty of states.”

Social media has been abuzz with netizens condemning the cowardly assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and calling for strong and stern action against Israel.

Oman condemns assassination of Hamas leader

Oman also expressed its condemnation and strong denunciation of the assassination of Haniyeh, stating that the killing is a blatant violation of international law and clearly undermines efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

In a statement, the Omani Foreign Ministry affirmed its firm position in rejecting all forms of terrorism, regardless of their motives and causes, as well as violations of state sovereignty and sanctities.

The Omani Foreign Ministry demanded strong action against the policy of killing, extremism, and abuse practiced against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the holy city of al-Quds.

Pakistan says concerned with ‘growing Israeli adventurism’

Pakistan also strongly condemned the assassination and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the Palestinian nation.

“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings irrespective of the motives,” the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We are deeply shocked by the timing of this reckless act, coinciding with the inauguration of the President of Iran, an event attended by several foreign dignitaries, including the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan.”

The ministry said Islamabad views with serious concern the growing Israeli adventurism in the region and its latest acts that constitute a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region and that undermine efforts for peace.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the assassination, emphasizing that the  “murder” was “designed to derail ongoing negotiations” to end the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.

“It is patently clear that this could only have been carried out in an environment of utter impunity,” Anwar said on Wednesday as he spoke to the leadership of the Palestinian resistance group to convey condolences.

“Only the heedless and unconscionable will not see the need to intensify pressure on Israel to stop their murderous rampage,” the Malaysian prime minister noted.

Anwar further stated that his “detractors ... fail to appreciate Haniyeh’s profound desire for a peaceful West Asia and a Palestinian nation restored to its rightful dignity.”

“I mourn the loss of a dear friend and a valiant advocate for his people,” he said.

Separately, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry urged an immediate and thorough investigation into the assassination, and said “those responsible will be brought to justice.”
