Iran welcomes Yemen de-escalation deal, says hopes for 'sustainable peace'

Iran's Foreign Ministry

Iran has hailed a deal between Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement and the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) to ease financial tension and stop reciprocal measures.

In a statement on Thursday, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Nasser Kan’ani said that the Islamic Republic hopes that the warring sides in the long-running conflict would sign an agreement on sustainable peace as soon as possible.

Kan’ani said the resolution of regional crises through dialogue and negotiations is rooted in Tehran’s fundamental policies.

The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg announced the deal on Tuesday. It seeks to end the warring parties’ battle for control over the country’s financial institutions and resume national carrier Yemenia Airways’ flights between Sana’a and Jordan with an increase to three daily flights. Additionally, daily flights to Cairo and India, or as needed, will be operated.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers any agreement that eases economic pressures and removes the air, sea, and land blockade of Yemen to be in the interest of the Yemeni nation, and to bring stability and stability in the country,” Kan’ani emphasized.

The top Iranian diplomat stated that the resolution of regional conflicts through dialogue is rooted in the fundamental policies of the Islamic Republic, expressing hope that Ansarullah and the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) would clinch an agreement on lasting peace in Yemen as quickly as possible.

UAE, Iraq laud Yemen’s financial de-escalation deal

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Ministry described the agreement as a positive step towards a political solution in Yemen that would fulfill the aspirations of its nation for security, development and stability.

The ministry also commended the efforts of the UN and its special envoy to reach a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis that would enhance peace and stability in the country and the West Asia region.

The UAE foreign ministry then reaffirmed Abu Dhabi’s support for all regional and international efforts to bring stability to Yemen, and its commitment to stand by the brotherly people of Yemen and uphold their legitimate aspirations for development and prosperity.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry, for its part, lauded the agreement between Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement and the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) to de-escalate economic tensions.

“The Ministry affirms its full support for the efforts aimed at achieving peace and security, and meeting the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni nation,” it said in a statement.
