Britain and Jordan have called for an “immediate ceasefire in Gaza to end suffering” of the Palestinians in the besieged territory due to Israel’s barbarous campaign of genocide.

Britain’s newly-appointed Foreign Secretary David Lammy hosted Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadiin in London on Tuesday.

In a message posted on X, Lammy said the two sides had once more discussed the Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

“We discussed work towards an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to end the suffering, get hostages out and aid in – as well as rising regional tensions,” he said on X.

The two officials had earlier on Sunday had a phone conversation. They discussed efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, and addressed the catastrophic humanitarian crisis there.

They also reviewed recent regional developments and explored ways to de-escalate the rising tensions in the region.

The two diplomats had agreed to continue in-depth talks at a meeting in London.

In June and during an emergency aid summit in Jordan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had reiterated the urgency of an immediate ceasefire, insisting that “the horror must stop.”

At a plenary session of the Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza summit in Sweimeh, Guterres underscored opening all available routes into Gaza to let humanitarian aid through to the hapless people.

Speaking at the summit in Jordan, Guterres and several regional leaders discussed an urgent humanitarian response.
