Iran has once again reiterated its support for the resistance front in Palestine, saying it is trying to prevent the expansion of tensions in the region.

Iran's Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani made the remark in a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib in New York on Wednesday on the sidelines of two United Nations Security Council meetings.

He said Lebanon plays a key role in promoting stability in the region and stressed the importance of holding more talks with Lebanese authorities.

The Islamic Republic strongly supports the promotion of stability and security in Lebanon, he emphasized.

Bagheri Kani said Palestinians are the "real owners" of Palestine and they are the ones who should make a decision about their land and future.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized the immediate need for prevention of the continuation of the Israeli regime's crimes and attacks against the oppressed people of Gaza.

Bagheri Kani warned that expansion of the Israeli regime's attacks is the cause of escalating crisis in the region.

Muslim countries should make the Israeli regime regret posing any threat to Lebanon, he pointed out.

Bagheri Kani was referring to the Israeli regime’s failure to realize any of its goals, such as elimination of Gaza’s resistance movements, enabling release of the captives that have been held by the groups, and displacement of Gaza’s entire population to neighboring Egypt.

Acting in support of war-hit Palestinians in Gaza, resistance groups hailing from Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen have fired hundreds of rockets and missiles towards sensitive targets throughout the occupied Palestinian territories and crippled Israeli-affiliated maritime activity to devastating effects for Tel Aviv.

The Lebanese resistance movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory attacks as long as the Israeli regime continues its Gaza war, which has so far killed at least 38,794 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 89,364 people.

Hezbollah officials have repeatedly said the Lebanese resistance movement is not after a war with Israel, while stressing that it is prepared in case it occurs.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.

Lebanon seeks peace, stability in region, end to Gaza war: Bou Habib

The Lebanese foreign minister, for his part, said Beirut seeks to promote peace and stability in the region and called for efforts to put an end to Israel's war in Gaza to prevent the expansion of the war scope across the region.

Bou Habib stressed the importance of establishing a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.

He also commended Iran's support for Lebanon's stability and security.
