The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has denounced the destruction of its headquarters in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli forces, amid the ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian territory.
Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, made the remarks in a tweet on Monday.
The head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees says its headquarters in Gaza has been leveled during heavy fighting.
“The headquarters in Gaza turned into a battlefield and is now flattened. Another episode in the blatant disregard of international humanitarian law. United Nations facilities must be protected at all times. They must never be used for military or fighting purposes. Shocking,” said Philippe Lazzarini.

The Israeli regime forces have continuously targeted UNRWA facilities, schools, and shelters across the besieged territory in its tenth-month genocidal war.
On Sunday, the Israeli forces targeted a school run by UNRWA in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 people and injuring 80 others.
A series of Israeli airstrikes on Saturday by US-made F16 jet planes targeted the al-Mawasi area designated by the regime as a so-called “safe zone". The attacks, which took place around 10:30 a.m. local time, left at least 90 Palestinians dead and more than 300 others wounded.
The United Nations special rapporteur on Palestine has demanded the Israelis be forced by the international community to accept a ceasefire in Gaza where people are trapped in hell.
The Tel Aviv regime launched the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, after Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory operation in the occupied territories.
Since then, Israeli regime forces have killed more than 38,580 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 88,881 others. The remains of thousands more are buried under rubble or found on the roads as ambulances and civil defense crews are banned by the Israeli military from approaching victims.
