A large fire has broken out close to an Israeli military base on Mount Scopus in the occupied East al-Quds, with firefighters and rescue team battling the blaze for hours.
According to Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service, two fires broke out in the area just before 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) on Tuesday, and were bolstered by high winds, threatening Hadassah Hospital and the Ofrit military base.
The service said earlier that firefighters, together with police and troops, managed to create defensive lines around both the hospital and the base.
Hebrew-language media outlets asserted that firefighters managed to bring the large fire under control after some three hours.

The Israeli police said in a separate statement that there is no danger at this stage to residents of the area, the military base, road users or nearby Hebrew University buildings.
A spokesman for the Israeli army said there are suspicions that the fire was started intentionally, noting that officials are conducting investigations and searching for suspects in the area.
According to a Channel 12 news report, authorities suspect the blaze was started by Molotov cocktails hurled from the nearby Palestinian neighborhood of Issawiya.
Eyewitnesses said the fire consumed large swathes of the neighborhood near the Israeli military base.
