Gaza humanitarian crisis
A new report on the humanitarian situation in Gaza has raised the alarm over the high risk of famine across the territory. It said around 500,000 people in Gaza are facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity as Israel continues to block humanitarian aid entering Gaza. The findings also show that Israel's invasion of Rafah and the closure of the southern city's crossings have had significant repercussions for Gaza's humanitarian situation. UN experts have also warned that as long as the Israeli onslaught on Gaza continues, the risk of famine in the entire territory remains highly significant. The report was released by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, which is an initiative involving UN agencies, national governments and aid groups.
Gaza ceasefire
Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh says any ceasefire proposal that does not guarantee an end to the regime’s onslaught is “not an agreement”. Haniyeh said the movement has shown flexibility, and agreed without hesitation to all the proposals, provided that the result would be an end to the aggression. He said Hamas’s position will not change under any conditions. Haniyeh also stressed the international community is required to take action to stop the aggression and bring much-needed aid into Gaza.
Yemen supports Gaza
The Yemeni army says it has carried out a fresh naval operation against an Israeli-linked ship in the Arabian Sea. The army’s spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said a Liberian-flagged container was hit during the operation. He added the operation was carried out using a newly-unveiled missile that is capable of hitting targets accurately and over long distances. The Yemeni military official stressed that such attacks are in response to the US and UK airstrikes against the Arab country and in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. He also reiterated that these operations will continue unless Israel ends its war and siege on the Palestinians in Gaza.
