Iraqi resistance to fight Israel ‘at zero distance,’ official warns

An Iraqi official has warned that the country’s resistance fighters would engage the Israeli regime “at zero distance” if the latter realized its threats of waging a war against Lebanon.

The comments were made on Monday by Abu Alaa al-Walae, secretary-general of the Sayyed Al-Shuhada Brigades.

The brigades is a component of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), a coalition of resistance movements in the Arab country. It is also part of Iraq’s Islamic Resistance, which is an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters.

The Islamic Resistance has been staging numerous strikes against targets lying across the occupied Palestinian territories since October 7, 2023 when the Israeli regime began waging a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.

So far, the Iraqi fighters have been “striking the Zionist enemy's strongholds from a distance of over 800 kilometers (497 miles),” Walae said.

The “geographical barrier will [however] be removed if the Zionist entity commits the folly of waging war on Lebanon,” he added.

“In that case, the fighting will be at zero distance, and all types of the resistance's military arsenal will be usable and capable of hitting their targets with extreme precision.”

The Israeli regime began launching sporadic attacks against Lebanon following the onset of the Gaza war, prompting a firefight with the country’s resistance movement Hezbollah.

The exchange of fire has intensified since the Israeli assassination of senior Hezbollah commander Sami Taleb Abdullah.

The movement has retaliated by firing hundreds of rockets into the northern parts of the occupied territories.

Last Tuesday, the Israeli army said it had approved plans for an attack on Lebanon, raising concerns that the regime might try to realize its recurrent threats of turning Lebanon into another Gaza.

Speaking recently, though, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah asserted that “in case an inclusive war is imposed on Lebanon, the resistance will fight without restraints, without rules, without limits.”

“Whoever thinks of war against us will regret it,” the Hezbollah leader noted.
