Hamas urges countries to follow suit after D-8 bashed Israel

Foreign minister of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation gathered for an extraordinary meeting on the situation in Palestine on June 8, 2024 in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has called on countries around the world to follow the line set out by the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation and put pressure on Israel and its allies for their ongoing crimes in Gaza.

In a statement on Sunday, Hamas welcomed a joint declaration issued at the end of the Extraordinary Meeting of the D-8 Council of Ministers in Istanbul a day earlier, which called for an immediate end to the Israeli war on Gaza.

The movement thanked Turkey and other D-8 members for holding the meeting and said the organization should continue to pressure “the Israeli occupation and its supporters” to end an aggression on Gaza which has killed more than 37,000 people in over eight months.

It also called on the D-8 to support economic and political measures  aimed at isolating and boycotting the Israeli occupation.

In its Saturday declaration, the D-8 demanded “an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire, the cessation of the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in Gaza, and the immediate implementation of the relevant UN Resolutions”.

The group, which is made up of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, also called on the United States to “lift its veto on the full membership of Palestine in the UN as an independent and sovereign State”.

Hamas also appreciated the D-8 for offering support for Palestinian people’s struggle for their inalienable rights, including efforts to gain full membership at the United Nations.
