Iran’s interim foreign minister has left Tehran for Istanbul to attend an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation on Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Ali Bagheri Kani is scheduled to attend and address the Saturday meeting, which is “an opportunity to continue the active diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the Palestinian cause and the resistance of the Palestinian people against the Zionist regime.”

The top Iranian diplomat will also meet with the foreign ministers participating in the Istanbul meeting on the need for coherent and coordinated action on the part of Islamic countries to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime and also to send urgent aid to the people under siege in Palestine, the statement added.

In addition to Bagheri Kani, Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, and Bangladeshi Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni along with high-level officials from Egypt and Nigeria are expected to attend the extraordinary meeting.

The D-8 member countries are expected to adopt a firm joint declaration regarding the Tel Aviv regime’s devastating war on Gaza.

At least 36,654 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip over the past eight months.
