The World Central Kitchen, which provides meals in Gaza, says it has suspended humanitarian aid operation in Rafah as Israel has intensified its ground invasion of the southern city.
The US-based non-profit wrote on X on Tuesday that it’s moving its community kitchens further north in the besieged Gaza Strip.
“Ongoing attacks have forced us to pause work at our main kitchen in Rafah and relocate many of our community kitchens further north."
The charity said in the face of the regime’s attacks, “countless families are being forced to flee once again.”
It said the "situation is dire" but that on Tuesday it was able to provide almost 100,000 meals to displaced Palestinians.
The World Central Kitchen that focuses on fighting hunger around the world resumed its work in Gaza in late April, almost a month after seven of its aid workers were killed in an Israeli air strike.
"Ultimately, we decided we must keep feeding," the organization said of that decision.
Delivering aid into Gaza has become more difficult since Israel has launched its offensive in Rafah in early May, aid agencies say.
They say even when medical and other aid makes it into Gaza, it remains "very challenging" to transport and deliver the goods both in the south and to the north.
Rik Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization's representative in the Palestinian territories, warned earlier about malnutrition in Rafah.
