Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani says the strategic choice of Iran and Russia to form a fair world is based on multilateralism.

Bagheri Kani made the remarks in a post on his X account on Saturday after he held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He said he held the phone call with the Russian foreign minister in the continuation of diplomatic meetings and contacts, and discussed mutual and multilateral plans.

Bagheri Kani added that Tehran and Moscow are promoting bilateral, regional and international cooperation.

"The path of multilateralism is the strategic choice of Iran and Russia to shape a fair world in which each player gets a chance to play a role based on his capacity," the interim foreign minister wrote.

Following the martyrdom of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday, interim President Mohammad Mokhber appointed Bagheri Kani as head of the international committee and interim foreign minister.

Bagheri Kani is also Iran's chief negotiator with major world powers to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Russia is a signatory to the agreement.
