Germany has extended condolences to Iran over the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raeisi.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz extended condolences in a message addressed to Vice President Mohammad Mokhber on Tuesday.

“Our condolences go to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the families of those killed in the crash.”

The helicopter transporting the president and his accompanying delegation, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and six others, crashed on Sunday en route to East Azerbaijan Province.

President Raeisi was returning from a location on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he inaugurated a dam with President Ilham Aliyev.

World leaders are sending condolence messages to the people of Iran.

Many countries, the neighboring states in particular, are observing days of mourning to honor the revered president and those accompanying him.

In Iran, crowds in millions are gathering to honor the martyrs. Mourning ceremonies are held in towns and cities nationwide.

The state funeral of President Raeisi will take place in his birthplace, the holy city of Mashhad, on Thursday.
