The head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service has expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions in a helicopter crash.

In a message on Monday, Ahmad Norouzi described the martyrs as “pure devotees” who came from the people's hearts and put serving them at the top of their ideals.

He noted that not only Iran but also the entire Muslim world and the oppressed and voiceless people of Palestine benefitted from the blessings of the martyrs of the tragic incident.

The Iranian president, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and their accompanying delegation lost their lives after the helicopter carrying them crashed in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan due to harsh weather conditions on Sunday. Their bodies were found on Monday after a massive night-long search operation.

Norouzi, who also serves as CEO of Press TV, said along with Iranian women, men and the youths, people across the world prayed for the well-being of the real fighters against the global arrogance and the resistance-based path of the Islamic Republic.

He also extended his condolences to the noble Iranian nation over the martyrdom of President Raeisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, Friday Prayers leader of the city of Tabriz Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem and their companions.

President Raeisi and his accompanying delegation were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
