Iran run-off parliamentary vote

Iranian People are heading to the polls for a run-off vote that will determine the final composition of the next parliament. The voting is taking place in 15 provinces, more than two months after the first round across the country. The Friday voting decides the fate of 45 remaining seats of the 290-member parliament. 90 candidates are vying for the remaining seats in 22 constituencies, most of them in major cities including the capital Tehran. In some polling stations, the voting is conducted electronically. Iran’s leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot as well. He urged the Iranian nation to take part in the run-off as they did in the first round.

Rafah battles

Fierce battles are reported between Palestinian resistance fighters and Israeli forces in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah where about 1.4 million people are taking shelter. Troops have blown up several buildings in their latest attacks in Rafah. Eyewitnesses have spoken of a “night of fire” in the city amid strikes by tanks and jets. The regime has long planned a large-scale ground offensive in Rafah, despite international objections over humanitarian consequences. Israel has already seized Rafah's border crossing into Egypt, which is the main entry point for aid into Gaza. The UN says the regime is now preventing anything or anyone from going in or getting out of Gaza. Israel meanwhile has struck other areas of the besieged territory, killing several Palestinians. More than 34,900 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel unleashed its war in early October.

Support for Gaza

Yemeni Protesters have poured onto the streets of the northern city of Sa’ada in yet another rally in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The protesters chanted slogans against Israel and its main supporter, the US. They have been holding rallies on Fridays since the Israeli war on Gaza broke out in early October. They also voiced support for the army’s operations against Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea. The demonstrators also voiced support for their army’s attacks on American and British ships in retaliation for the two countries’ airstrikes on Yemen. The US and the UK claim the airstrikes aim to protect international shipping.
