Residents of a flooded city in Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul have faced the huge scale of devastation in the region as the death toll climbed to 83 people with more than a hundred still missing, according to authorities.
Flooding from storms has destroyed roads and bridges in several cities while triggering landslides and the partial collapse of a dam at a small hydroelectric power plant.
In the city of Canoas, floods have affected nearly 150,000 residents, almost half of the city's population of 347,000, local media reported on Saturday.
On Monday, residents watched the water in the streets and drew on inflatable boats to move around the city.
