European Parliament members criticize EU as 'accomplice’ in Israeli war on Gaza

A view of the European Parliament in Brussels

Some members of the European Parliament (EP) have rebuked the European Union for its complicity in Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip during the occupying regime’s months-long war against Palestinians in the besieged territory.

The EP members of parliament said the EU was “accomplice” in Israel's actions violating international law as the regime’s genocidal war on Gaza rages on for more than 200 days.

During a session titled, EP’s reaction to the killing of humanitarian aid workers, journalists, and civilians by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, Left Group member Manu Pineda condemned Israel’s failure to implement provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as he highlighted the deaths of journalists and humanitarian aid workers in Israeli attacks.

Pineda described Israel as a "tumor" in the West Asia region.

Another Left Group member, Clare Daly, blamed the EU for complicity and silence regarding Israel's actions in Gaza over the past seven months.

Daly criticized the EU for cutting support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) without substantiating Israel's allegations against the agency.

She accused the EU of "waving the flag of the oppressor from day one," and condemned some EU countries for their actions.

Mick Wallace, also a member of the Left Group, condemned the delayed timing of the session, criticizing the EU's provision of arms to what he referred to as a "genocidal apartheid regime."

Wallace said the EU was providing diplomatic cover for Israel's actions while failing to impose sanctions or take decisive action.

He underscored the EU's contradictory reactions to conflicts involving Russia and Israel, questioning the prioritization of geopolitical interests over human rights.

Wallace concluded by questioning whether the EU considers the loss of children's lives in Gaza an acceptable price to protect its interests.

Israel waged its brutal US-backed war on the Gaza Strip on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance groups carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has been carrying out war crimes in Gaza by deliberately starving people and forcing their evacuation, as well as targeting hospitals and schools sheltering displaced Palestinians.

The Tel Aviv regime has so far killed over 34,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 77,000 others.

Since the start of the onslaught, the US, Israel's most dedicated ally, has fast-tracked arms shipments to the occupying regime and blocked UN resolutions that called for a Gaza truce.
