The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement has denounced the Israeli military’s offensive on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, terming the attack as part of the occupying Zionist regime’s “ongoing genocidal war on Palestinians.”
“For two consecutive days, the camp has been subjected to a vicious assault that targeted civilian facilities and residential buildings, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries,” the Gaza-based group said in a statement on Friday.
It underlined that the savage attack is a clear reflection of the Zionist entity’s disregard for all international and judicial resolutions, which demand an end to the criminal and genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
Hamas added that the offensive is being carried out with the full support of the US administration, which continues to provide the criminal Israeli military with unflagging military and political support and protection against international prosecution.
The movement called on the international community and the United Nations to take immediate actions aimed at forcing the Israeli army to stop its aggression and war crimes in Gaza.
The Israeli military said on Thursday it launched a “targeted operation” against Hamas in the central Gaza Strip overnight, pushing into an area on the outskirts of the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Heavy airstrikes and artillery shelling pounded parts of the camp before troops moved into the area.
Palestinians said a strike on a residential building killed at least five people, and other apartment towers were also struck.
Israel waged the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s incessant crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Since the start of the aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 33,686 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the territory.
The campaign has devastated large swathes of Gaza, destroyed hospitals and displaced half of its population of 2.4 million.
Israel has also imposed a “complete siege” on the coastal sliver, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
